I can't with people who are putting all the blame on the two presenters. They were simply doing their job.

They were doing what radio shows have done for a hundred years. So many pranks have been done before over here before. they were simply doing what has been done 49536363 times already.

It didn't help that the media blew this all up and clearly that would have had an effect on her. but I mean, it was all a harmless prank, which shouldn't be blamed on the presenters, because nobody could have foreseen such a horrific outcome.

I mean, people before this suicide had happened, had found it funny and could see the joke in it and hey even Prince Charles had a little laugh over it, but once this story broke, those people who said it was funny have taken a turn and now saying the prank was harmful and that. Why didn't they say that to begin with without doing a complete 180.?

obviously the prank call affected this nurse to the point of suicide

yes it may have been a joke but with these kind of pranks you run the risk of offending someone, and this may be a extreme case but the truth is this woman probably killed herself because she was so embarrassed and hurt by the prank

the radio djs need to accept responsibility for what has happened even if they did not mean harm

Yes, pranks may lead to risk, but as they stated, they didn't expect to even get through. As I stated, they were simply doing what had been done 4954847474 times before.

I mean, they even went through their legal team before they even aired it. It really is an unfortunate even, but I really don't think the presenters themselves shouldn't be putting the blame on themselves.

they are completely responsible IMO

you cant predict or know how someone is going to b affected by a joke or prank. something which seems funny to you or your legal team may cause serious harm to someone else

maybe she had other mental problems or something else affecting her but this prank clearly caused her to take her own life

So does that mean now we just shouldn't do these types of pranks or heck any type of pranks at all?.

Radio over here do these sorts of pranks all the time. They even have released CD's of a collection of prank calls being done. it was no different to what had been done before, just in this instance someone had taken their own life

I have a problem with going public and expose people, this is something like the dark age to put someone in the pillory (in australia I think the nurses were the idiots of the day when it's aired)

I live in Germany and we have strong private rights and thank god for that(we've learned of our history). For instance Newspapers are not allowed to name an underage children in connection with a crime.
In business it's obligated that when I tape a phone call I MUST inform the other person.
If I would get a prank call from a radio station I could prohibit specifically to air it.

I think our societies don't know yet to handle the age of mass media, twitter etc.

no but they do have to accept responsibility for what happened

radio djs are supposed to play music - it is not their jobs to make nuisance calls and prank people doing their jobs

if it wasnt for that dumb prank call that woman would probably still be working as a nurse

Agree entirely.

To be honest the nurse must have been experiencing other issues in her life as there is no way this event would cause any rational person to commit suicide. It is still unbelievably tragic though.

I understand what you are saying - and I think the original prank was really stupid and not even especially funny - however there's no way can you expect someone to take their own life because of something like this. It's going too far to say the DJs are "responsible" for her death (although I bet they are feeling terrible right now...)
