I wouldn't really be surprised it Hannah Montana came out on top, not because she is more successful or has a bigger fanbase or anything, cause she doesn't, but because of the fact that the majority of people who buy Kelly's CD are either teenagers or people in their 20's, all who know how to download illegal music and dont bother buying CDs anymore. All little kids (mostly) are buying the Hannah Montana CD so they're not downloading the music and either are their parents who are the ones who are actually paying for these CDs.
But I still hope Kelly can come out on top. She deserves it.
Hmmm. That would explain the forced story of Kelly's prior Bulimic eating disorder.
But set aside that, if Clarkson were under my label, I'd sign her up on every known talk show, morning show, night show, major radio show, and anything else where the viewers are. Kelly is that big of a deal.
Clive is just doing his job which is to support and promote his artist. However, just an idea, I think Kelly may not have wanted to be on every media program possible, and so Clive might've done this out of spite for his dislking over MD. (Maybe trying to covertly teach Kelly a lesson?) Or he thinks the album needs that much attention so it could be as equally great to her Sophmore CD or for whatever reason.
She should have promoted the album on Oprah as well. When Oprah promotes something it usually sells quite well. Many of the books in her book club end up selling over a million copies.

KELLY’S STILL GREEN: The fortunes of the recently controversial Kelly Clarkson are on the rise once again, as My December garners stronger-than-expected reviews, while the album is in a battle for #1 next week with Disney’s Hannah Montana. Clarkson has no manager at present, but Narvel Blackstock, Reba McEntire’s husband/manager, and a former associate are said to have the inside track. (6/29a)
