Tours used to be the best promo for albums, but these days tours are just the main money-makers.
Nowadays albums promote tours, not the other way round.
e.g. Madonna dropping albums as an excuse and a buzz for her tours. S&S and MDNA tours are among the most successful tours of all time, but the albums didn't sell anything overall (and the absolute most of it was sold before the tours even began)
