Gaga, clearly. Better writer, performer, visionary, designer, etc. Taylor is somewhat basic.

Still won't let this thread die I see. Any new reasons why Joanne is a superior artist? Those receipts have been shoved down on my throat from time to time. Yawn. Be creative.

Probably because those receipts are true
Let's look at Lady Gaga's last lead single, shall we? This is one of her worst songs lyrically.
Quote:
[Verse:]
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir
"There's nothing wrong with loving who you are"
She said, "'Cause he made you perfect, babe"
"So hold your head up girl and you'll go far,
Listen to me when I say"
[Chorus:]
I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way
[Post-chorus:]
Oh there ain't no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Oh there ain't no other way
Baby I was born this way
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way
Don't be a drag ‒ just be a queen [x3]
Don't be!
[Verse:]
Give yourself prudence
And love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice your truth
In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth
A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital H-I-M (Hey hey hey)
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (Love needs faith)
|
Those lyrics are probably the best in the song. So yeah, the lyrics are quite simple. But let's take a look at Taylor Swift's latest lead single.
Quote:
I remember when we broke up the first time
Saying, "This is it, I've had enough," 'cause like
We hadn't seen each other in a month
When you said you needed space. (What?)
Then you come around again and say
"Baby, I miss you and I swear I'm gonna change, trust me."
Remember how that lasted for a day?
I say, "I hate you," we break up, you call me, "I love you."
Oooh we called it off again last night
But oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you
We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together
Like ever...
I'm really gonna miss you picking fights
And me falling for it screaming that I'm right
And you would hide away and find your peace of mind
With some indie record that's much cooler than mine
Oooh, you called me up again tonight
But oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you
We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me (talk to me)
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together
Oooh yeah, oooh yeah, oooh yeah
Oh oh oh
I used to think that we were forever ever
And I used to say, "Never say never..."
Uggg... so he calls me up and he's like, "I still love you,"
And I'm like... "I just... I mean this is exhausting, you know, like,
We are never getting back together. Like, ever"

Yeah. Cringeworthy.
Now let's look at performing skills. This is somewhere where Taylor can't compete at all.
Gaga's singing ***** on Taylor's - her voice has a much stronger tone and Taylor's pitch control is especially lacking. I personally like Taylor's voice but it isn't good in the technical aspects.
The Born This Way Ball has received universal acclaim, with most critics noting her ability to entertain. All I need to do is point you to Taylor's WANEGBT X Factor UK performance to show you her lack of performing ability, not to mention that panned duet she did on the VMAs I think it was?

Because critics don't take lyrics into account? Ok.

Where did you get critics from? I was talking about lyrics the whole time, since that was what you were comparing.

When you compared the two recent singles' lyrics, I said you should compare the debut singles' lyrics. When did I ever mention critics?
Lyrically, Tim McGraw is far superior to Just Dance., that's what my point was the whole time.

Yawn. Taylor`s unreleased songs are better lyrically than most of Gaga`s co-written work.

You never mentioned the lyrics. There was more to my post than just comparing their lyrics, you know

That's true but since you were comparing those songs lyrically I though you'd realize I wanted to compare the debut songs lyrically as well.

Oh right ok
But yeah, the whole point of Just Dance was to propel her into the limelight, and I guess you could say it worked.

Taylor, but if she keeps going in her current direction, I might change my mind.

Yes it definitely did it's job and was obviously more successful than Tim McGraw, I just prefer the latter, which is what the thread is about... who is superior in your eyes
