In a way, it is kind of a snub. He was nominated for Best Pop Vocal album with My World 2.0, and his vocals on this album are pretty stellar.
It isn't an award for vocals, it's an award for an album with vocals to seperate the category from the instrumental album awards. (Which is why people attacking Katy for being nominated for vocal categories doesn't make sense.)
I'm NOT a fan... by any means... to say the least lol, but some of the tracks on his album, like 'Catching Feelings' and 'Fall' are phenomenal! It's just too bad he didn't release them as singles.
At least they can be happy knowing One Direction didn't get the best new artist nomination (though they are worthy seeing as the Jonas Brothers got a nomination but lost to Adele).

His album was reviewed just as well as the albums in any major category and had the benefit of spawning three very successful hits, being a transitional period, an excellent display of vocals and diversity, and one of the very few commercially successful albums of the year, all but the first being things that the Grammy Awards are more concerned with than quality.
