If you actually think Call Me Maybe should have been nom'd for Record of the Year then you are basically saying that Rebecca Black's Friday should have been nom'd last year. It's not about popularity its about quality... which are pretty lacking in this year's nom's so far.
Call Me Maybe was a perfect pop song and not a viral joke though. And if they wanted to choose a cute pop song why Stronger? One of the worst songs of the year.
