Greatest Diva Vocalist (Mariah, Whit, Xtina, Bey, Gaga or?)
Of the mainstream modern pop divas, these artists are generally considered to have had legitimately strong voices. Who is the greatest vocalist ever of them ??
Vote based on whatever criteria you have in mind, as for what determines a good voice to you, but keep in mind their ability at their peak if their voices have changed.
My list:
1. Beyoncé
2. Adele
3. Mariah Carey
4. Whitney Houston
5. P!nk
6. Kelly Clarkson
7. Lady Gaga
8. Alicia Keys
9. Shakira
10. Christina Aguilera
Jessica has a great, powerful voice and is a great vocalist, whether you like her or not. Her instrument cannot be denied. And your list is pure delusion. Bey and Adele over the legends?
NOT including the legends, of the current generation of vocalists, Kelly and Bey are the only true and great vocalists.
Considering these girls at their prime.
Whitney>>Mariah>>Beyoncé>Celine>Christina>Kelly>>P !nk>>Adele>Alicia Keys>Toni>Jessica Simpson>Lady Gaga>>>Fergie.
1. Mariah Carey.. She is the boss when it comes to being a vocalist.. Just listen to her vocal arrangements and how she uses her voice.. unlike other artists who are given bold titles and can only seem to sing in one slippery key Mariah can showcase each octave beautifully and has influenced every other person (asides from Whitney & Celine obviously) on the list.
2. Celine.. Now we know Celine only sings live like once a month and the rest is straight from CD but she is a good vocalist..
3. Whitney Houston.. She is just Whitney.. She had her off days in the later stages of her career but her tone & vibrato are heaven sent.
4. Toni Braxton I know alot of people sleep on this womans ability as a vocalist.. She has a head voice which you rarely hear because her deep growls are her trademark.. for anyone who hasn't heard her I'd suggest doing so because the attention to detail in her arrangements is outstanding.
5. Beyonce.. Well.. Believe it or not Bey is one of the most basic on this list when it comes to innate vocal talent.. its thanks to years of diligent training she has cemented herself as one of the best vocalists in the past 20 years.. Her ability to emulate instruments & transition through her range make her the true voice of our generation..
6. P!nk She started off not showing much in terms of her voice but she has a very distinctive tone & her raspy lower range are just mesmerizing
7. Shakira another artist who is slept on with her vocals.. She has a very unique tone and her head voice is beautiful.. She rarely shows off her range because she leans more to being a performer then a vocalist.. She does sound pitchy sometimes but most of her show is live and to sing in tune and on key whilst dancing is incredibly hard.
8. Kelly Clarkson.. Its been a minute since I listened to her but she has improved.. I've saw her performances a few times and she doesn't appear to have problems with her vocal delivery live..
9. Adele.. Well she doesn't really show much in terms of range or vocal technique.. she does have a beautiful voice and it compliments the message of her songs beautifully.. I'd love to hear her head voice more.
10. Alicia Keys.. Well if you go back and listen to Fallin' it would be like listening to a completely different person.. Over the years lack of training and bad habits have made Alicia's voice sound constrained and she does have trouble staying on key live..
11. Christina Aguilera.. Here is where we get a bit technical.. She showed the most promise when she emerged.. a huge range and huge potential yet years of bad habits and no vocal training have led her range to diminish and her voice has become hoarse & one dimensional..
She also has a bad habit of shout-singing.. She raises her larynx and does not understand vocal resonance which is 'vocal power' when you hear Mariah and the others belt they are relying on their resonance not shouting.. thats why the belts can be sustained and built upon.. (Bey, Mariah & Whitney have all showcased the ability to use coloratura in a belt which requires alot of skill)
This is why most of her songs are in one key and she doesn't make transitions because she can't.. She tried to on Make The World Move live and we all saw what happened.. a horrid off key unsustained belt straight from the throat.
For those of you who don't know your larynx is a throat muscle which is supposed to be relaxed when you sing so you can go through your chest to head voice.
I'd like to say there's a light at the end of the tunnel for her voice but given her attitude its doubtful..
(Also why isn't Leona Lewis on this list.. she is an exceptional vocalist)
