Unfortunately for her, that is not at all the way that contract law works.
There are two things here that are really troublesome for Shakira's defense that he was not an employee.
1) She posted on her own website in 2010 that although they were no longer in a relationship however remain business partners.
2) She had him terminated just as a regular employee would be, proving that there was an understanding of a working business relationship and contract.
Now, it's up to a judge to determine the value of that contract, and I hardly think any judge would award what he is asking for. But he is aware of that, and is asking for such an absorbant amount in hopes to just get a fraction of what he is asking for.
And for someone who has a degree in legal studies and studied contract law (me), I'm certain that it will be proven there was a business relationship seperate from the romantic one, and that she will owe him money. How much depends on the exact details of the case and also what she actually made during the time they weree business partners
