-Her most critically-acclaimed album (ROL)
-Releasing the biggest global smash of the year (Music)
-Her biggest hit in terms of going #1 in the most countries and breaking the Guinness Record (Hung Up)
-Becoming a touring powerhouse
Britney is the last major icon. Gaga ruined everything way too early & she never reached a peak in success or fame like Britney anyway. Nobody gives two ***** about Gaga's personal life and that's what made Britney so fricken huge. She had the massive music success + all the controversies surrounding her performances/videos AND she had her personal life plastered everywhere. That level of fame, and the amount of time she held it for is insane.
And as each year passes, all you hear on all these TV shows, blogs, MTV, EW, all these magazines, is that Britney is the Queen, that she's a legend, and no matter how much of an exaggeration it is, it's being drilled into peoples minds.

LOL. Britney's career was going down hill rapidly once she married Kevin. It wasn't until the breakdown that all of a sudden fans came out of the woodwork with their ~love for her but prior to that she was fading lbr.
Britney's huge and everyone loves her but it's stems from sympathy and nostalgia and that can only last but for so long.
Nostalgia acts don't go #1 everytime they release a song..
