Backstreet Boys have set October 31 as the release date for their as-yet-untitled sixth album, according to a spokesperson. The group's follow-up to 2005's Never Gone will be the first effort since the departure of longtime member Kevin Richardson last summer..

I'm kinda happy that they're still trying to do their own thing, cuz N*Sync are being stalled by Justin Timberlake's overactive ego and 98 Degrees haven't tried much either. I actually miss 90's pop. = (

I love Backstreet Boys. Just look at my last.fm. I just hope it's still good. No more slow stuff, more upbeat songs, something like thier debut CD.

You could argue that, but really, from 1997-2002, they, as in Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, 98 Degrees, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, and eve S Club 7 in the UK owned everything.

Interesting thought that occured to me when I read this is that you left out Destiny's Child, which certainly impacted the industry in a large way in that timeframe. I was then thinking about how many of those people can still top charts today and there are only a few: Justin and Beyonce. The otthers have had a real problem reaching the summit. Christina has been fairly successful and remains respected for her pipes, but doesnt sell near as well as Justin or Beyonce nor do her singles peak as high as theirs. Nick and Jessica have each been mildly successful here and there but nothing huge. Britney has been gone for a while now, but whether her music merits it or not, many expect her to do well with her return later this year. Mandy has a great album now, but we'll see who embraces it, my money is on Adult Contemporary and she could have success through that format. We'll see how things pan out, but most of these artists just cannot recreate their success from this timeframe but some have surpassed it...random thought...anyone agree/disagree?
