....auditioned for American Idol the same year [for what ever season it may be], and got all the way to the top two.... who do you think would win?

I know we have our favorites, but realistically, who do you think America would favor? And why? We already know who Simon favors, but his opinion rarely matters anymore.

I'm talking about Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood here if people are confused. lol

that's easy. both are amazing singer, but kelly has a great voice and great personality. carrie was pretty plain jane throughout the whole competition, no offense. i say kelly.

I honestly don't mind Carrie Underwood, but I prefer Kelly Clarkson. So I would go with the Breakaway girl, Kelly Clarkson.

i dont know, but based on the performances from each of their separate seasons combined together, Kelly would win cause her performances were breath taking. But Carrie has her own wonderful style

Carrie Underwood has better voice than Kelly Clarkson.
But many people in ATRL loves Kelly Clarkson. Go to USA and ask them who do they prefer Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson and you will find the answer.

And of course, Kelly Clarkson is an international artist that's a disvantage for Carrie Underwood.

You make it sound like she is thinking "OH NO I have to make a Country album because that is the only way I can be a Kelly clarkson!!"

Carrie didn't go Country because she cares about success. She went country because that's what she loves and what grew up with. Making a country album was always her dream even before idol. She always wanted to be country artist. She could easily be a puppet for the industry and make a pop/rock album, but that's not the kind of music she loves.

All the success she is receiving is all a surprise to her.

I honestly don't know, it depends when. I think if they both auditioned the first year. Kelly would've won, but I think if they auditioned Carrie's year, Carrie would've probably won.

It kind of depends on the year, America's standards have gotten worse and worse since season 1.

If Kelly still had the voice she did on her season...

Season 1 - Kelly Clarkson (54%)
Season 2 - Kelly Clarkson (52%)
Season 3 - Kelly Clarkson (51%)
Season 4 - Carrie Underwood (50.8%)
Season 5 - Carrie Underwood (51%)
Season 6 - Kelly Clarkson (50.6%)

Overall, Kelly would probably win. But Season 4 and 5 would have been Carrie's years to win.
