I am doing a presentation this week on why Lenovo is superior to Apple, and one of the hottest points I've researched upon is that the new Macbooks aren't upgradeable. Is this true? And to all the new Macbook users, what can you say about this?

To an extent.

You can fiddle around and upgrade the HDD capacity, Memory, and one or two other things, but beyond that it's fairly non-upgradable.

At least, compared to a PC. I'm not knocking Macbooks, cos I love mine.

When you say HDD, and Memory, what do you mean by "to an extent"? Like there's opening for those slots, or do you literally have to rip the motherboard open?

No. All you need to do is take off the back cover of the notebook, and its fairly simple to just unscrew the current one out and replace it with a new one.

And I say 'to an extent' because that's really the only things that you can upgrade, bar a few other things.

Macbook Pro's are upgradeable.

MacBook Pro's with Retina Display/MacBook Air... not so much. It all has to do with the form factor and how incredibly thin they are.

Yeah. I have the 13in Macbook Pro and I've upgraded both my HDD and Memory.

So the Macbook Pros are legitly upgradeable. But what's the Macbook Air?

The lessor version.

Sis, though, My MBA has the same specs as a pro 13 inch plus it has non-degradeable flash storage. Buy a 30 dollar CD drive and you're golden!

But yeah, MBAs are completely non upgradeable because Apple really has to stuff a lot of sh*t in a small space.

And to answer your question, OP, the Macbook Air is the super thin notebook they make that started the ultrabook trend.



It uses flash storage as opposed to traditional harddrives, making it last longer overall.
