Because she sold it on a random date in June.
Black Friday makes it much harder to be #1. So keep it cute from now on

While I agree with your point about it being easier to be #1 in June instead of BF. I also think you miss the bigger point. That point is that the album sold more then Rih's on a week where people aren't just rushing into the store do to it including BF. Still congrats are do for Rih

Yet 4's total sales are 1,2m AND Talk That Talk are 1,02m.
Longevity matters.

The fact that nearly hald of them are from Disturbia says it all tbh. It seems that all of his hoping and dreaming that Rihanna wouldn't go to #1 did not pay off. Better luck next time maybe.

What is your point though? My post was about the more impressive 1st week. Longevity is a different thing and I would agree it is more important but nobody was talking about that.

Isn't it obvious? My point is that the first week sales doesn't matter at all. Sure, it's always good to open strong. But not if your sales go downhill after that.

True. I disagree that they don't matter but without longevity those 1st week sales won't matter much but if your an artist like Rihanna, Gaga, Brit, etc and you have a less then stellar opening it says to me that the public isn't liking the music and thus it won't have longevity either. Rihanna right now seems to be actually gaining more fans this era and will probably have good longevity if the right singles are chosen and I draw this conclusion do to the strong opening week.
