Rihanna's problem is that all those records come from the singles field. Adele broke album records in 2012. That's a true impact. I really don't see anyone saying Rihanna is influential in the next generation. She is not a vocalist, she has no dancing skills, she barely writes songs (let alone entire albums) and she doesn't produce her albums. Honestly, there's nothing there to praise or imitate.

All these critically acclaimed/classic albums all the way to Rihannaa's ENTIRE CAREER. PERIOD. Rihanna's only good album has been Rated R and the rest are sloppy as ****. Exactly what has rihanna done except tap that *****, and try so hard to be this faux bad girl. Before rihanna was born Janet was shutting it down stage wise, and set the blueprint for new jack swing and contemporary r&b. So many artists from Britney to Bey to Brandy to J.LO to N'Sync and a hell of a lot more people have taken from her. Successful wise Janet has that in the bag being able to be considered a legend, break down barriers, raise the bar for female dance in pop music, reinventions, influence, a blueprint and changing music history all within her career. And on top of that being able to seperate herself from being MJ's little sister is ICONIC within itself. Matter of fact watch Janet Jackson be the first artist to have an MTV Icon special, and let's not forget her Vanguard video win (which happened in her first 8 years of making music), and being one of the most SUCCESSFUL female artists of the 90's.

By the end of her career, I can see more newcomers saying they were influenced by Rihanna than they were of Janet.

The comparison between the two are completely unfair since one is a veteran popstar, and the other has only been here for 7 years. And it's also unfair to say that "Nobody looks up to Rihanna as an influence, while people actually cite Janet." when there's no new popstars around to say they were influenced by Rihanna.
