Syncretism isn't restricted to theology itself. Appropriation is generally the beginning of syncretism. As long as the culture being depicted isn't being depicted in a negative light, I honestly don't see the problem as long as the people adopting the foreign dress are not ignorant of the other culture's history.

I am well aware of the expressions of Syncretism, but as you pointed out, do you think Mariah Carey is well-versed in the cultural history of Aboriginal peoples?
Reinforcing stereotypes for how Aboriginal peoples dress is portraying that culture in a negative light. I'm sure Mariah meant no harm regarding her costume, but the fact that traditional Native wear is being seen as a "costume" in and of itself is minimizing the Aboriginal culture and their traditions.

I'm not Native American myself, but I thought the image posted is just her in traditional Native American attire? Can someone tell me how this is offensive? I'm not being condescending when I ask this either. I'm genuinely curious.

It's most definitely not. It's a sexualized version of traditional Native wear.
