Janet in her prime was a trendsetter, she broke down so many barriers and was a pioneer for black girls and for women of any color in the current pop world. I have to laugh when people refer to Rihanna or Beyonce as the black Madonna in terms of impact and ingenuity because no honey, we already have one of those and her name is Janet ****ing Jackson. Respect it.
I think it's gonna be Rihanna. It's like Janet has been erased from history. She's never cited, noted, recognized, mentioned, her songs aren't played, absolutely nothing. It's crazy how one publicity stunt wiped out nearly 15 years of decent success. ATRL is literally the only place where she's mentioned nowadays.
Your fave just mentioned her a few days ago though as one of her favorite three female artists
I do wonder what Rihanna's legacy will be in about 7-10 years. By that time, she would be in her decade long career. No one really imagined Janet falling off hard because of an incident like Nipplegate.
I don't understand either. And this comes from stans whose faves are like non-factors in Asia and yet they claim their faves are global. As if only the Western part of the world makes you global. ATRL these days...
Anybody who says Rihanna has a bigger impact than Janet is flat out delusional and more than likely born after 1993. I just can't think of anybody else who'd stupidly try to convince themselves that Rihanna has an impact bigger than Janet Jackson. Are you SERIOUS? Do you realize that Janet Jackson is the archetype of black female pop and the reason girls like Rihanna can so easily crossover from R&B in the first place? There are seats to be had, stans.
