2. P!NK
Re-creating the "Try" music video onstage was no easy task for P!nk, but she sure made it look easy. Simultaneously singing the heart-tearing single, contorting her body effortlessly alongside her male counterpart and avoiding the flames set to engulf their broken home, the pop star once again demonstrated a knack for understanding what is expected for an awards show performance, and then going five notches above that expectation. The "Try" performance might have been the toughest awards-show set of P!nk's illustrious career -- sure, she's flown over the audience before at the Grammys and Video Music Awards, but how tired must she have been as she was nailing high notes while getting tossed around the stage with little abandon? Somehow, there was not one slip-up for P!nk -- but then again, there never is for the quintessential entertainer.

Pink Tops Herself Yet Again With Extraordinary AMAs Performance Of “Try”
For those who thought Pink couldn't possibly top her 2010 Grammy Awards performance of "Glitter In The Air"--where she performed upside down, suspended in mid-air, and nearly naked--the feisty singer did a good job of rivalring that at the 2012 American Music Awards, where she did a spot-on reinactment of her arresting "Try" video.
"Try," for those not familiar, debuted in October and details through elaborate, remarkably emotional--and intensely physical--choreography the struggles of a relationship that's gone awry. The end result proved difficult for many to watch, even some of Pink's own family: "Wow, honey. I'm speechless. And uncomfortable. No one can ever say you play it safe," Pink quoted her own mother as saying.
At the AMAs, Pink and her male counterpart dancer, Colt Prattes, did a remarkable job of re-creating the entire scenario, which the star has noted is her "favorite video ever." The performance--which likely took numerous takes during the making of the video to accomplish--was completed flawlessly on stage. Pink performs a remarkable upside-down balancing act on Prattes's shoulders, as well as completes a round of intensely athletic "fighting sequence" movements, all without barely smudging her rainbow-colored makeup. The dance progresses to a climactic moment where the pair throw each other into furniture while flames flicker in the background...only to rise up and, presumably, try again.

There were many highlights from Sunday’s American Music Awards — Jenny McCarthy kissing Justin Bieber, for one — but perhaps the most-talked-about moment was Pink‘s arresting performance of her latest single, “Try.”To prepare for the incredibly physical duet about a relationship gone awry, the singer rehearsed for 10 days with her male dance partner, Colt Prattes, director Baz Halpin, acrobatics coordinator Sebastien Stella and choreographers RJ Durell and Nick Florez.
Remarkably, Pink sang live throughout the performance.
“First and foremost, she’s an amazing vocalist and would never compromise that in a live performance,” Florez said.
In a statement before the video’s release, Pink called it “my favorite video ever.”
“It was the most violent, fun thing I’ve ever done in my life,” she said in a behind-the-scenes video. “The whole crew is fabulous. I’m in love with everyone. I never want this to end.”
Hours before the video premiered, Pink tweeted, “My mom, after seeing the new video: ‘Wow, honey. I’m speechless. And uncomfortable. No one can ever say you play it safe.’ Thanks, mama.”
Pink not only turned in a flawless performance, she had the audience standing from the very beginning.
“As soon as she is in the neck-to-neck balancing pose, we start to see everyone in the audience standing up,” Florez said. “We were hoping it would get a good response at the end, but from the moment it started you see people rise out of their seats.”

But, as far as we’re concerned, P!nk wowed the crowd and national audience with the most stunningly artistic and challenging performances of the night. Have you seen the original video for “Try“? Her second single from The Truth About Love? Well, it’s perfect. And she brilliantly recreated it live last night with a headpiece microphone. Her and her dancing partner amazingly translated the video to a live stage and she barely lost her breath! Seriously, the vocal is on point and you can tell that she IS NOT lip-syncing. What a talent, this one. Philadelphia could not be more proud of pop’s 2012 success story. Seems like people could care less about Christina’s new one, and are most definitely excited about the release of tomorrow’s Unapologetic from Rihanna, but P!nk continues to evolve as a best-selling pop artist in the most sophisticated and powerful ways.

1. Pink’s performance of “Try”
While many of the performances felt overly rehearsed and snoozy, the evening’s best was easily Pink, who turned out a remarkable performance of her latest single “Try,” effectively replicating the video’s impressive choreography live on stage. Emotionally and physically taxing, it was the only set where the stakes actually felt high — rather than the glittering distraction of a light show, the spotlight was on the human element, and it was the evening’s only moment that fans will still be discussing years from now.

ABC
There were many highlights from Sunday’s American Music Awards — Jenny McCarthy kissing Justin Bieber, for one — but perhaps the most-talked-about moment was Pink‘s arresting performance of her latest single, “Try.”To prepare for the incredibly physical duet about a relationship gone awry, the singer rehearsed for 10 days with her male dance partner, Colt Prattes, director Baz Halpin, acrobatics coordinator Sebastien Stella and choreographers RJ Durell and Nick Florez. But Florez said Pink was the one who deserves the most credit.”Ultimately, it all stems from Pink, because at the end of the day she wanted to put in the time to do the rehearsal and risk doing something that she had never done before, and that takes a lot of courage,” Florez told ABCNews.com. “She’s obviously so amazingly talented but pushed herself even further to do something she had never done.”"Something I think is special about this performance is in a lot of ways it’s the antithesis of what a pop star would do at an awards show,” Durell told ABCNews.com. “Everything was very stripped down. But I think what drove that decision is it really allowed the viewers and the audience to access the journey that Pink and Colt were taking us on in this performance.”We really wanted it to feel as though you were a fly on the wall and got a glimpse into someone’s struggle,” Florez said.
Pink’s remarkable dancing skills and sheer physicality took center stage as she performed on a simple set of a decrepit house wearing sparse clothing and rainbow-colored body-paint.
The performance opened with the singer balancing upside-down on Prattes shoulders, followed by intensely athletic, though balletic, sequences that mimicked fighting. The dance climaxed with the pair throwing each other into furniture while flames flickered in the background.
Remarkably, Pink sang live throughout the performance.
“First and foremost, she’s an amazing vocalist and would never compromise that in a live performance,” Florez said.
As a jumping off point for the AMA performance, Florez and Durell used the video for “Try,” which debuted in October and also features Prattes and some of the same acrobatic, sometimes anguished, moves intercut with scenes of Pink singing in a barren field.
No one can ever say you play it safe.’ Thanks, mama .”
The video, unlike Pink’s AMA performance, was recorded in segments.
“Our running joke was ‘No one could ever do this live,’” Florez said about the video, for which Pink rehearsed for two weeks. “Then came AMA time and Pink said she wanted to recreate this live and we were like, ‘Oh my goodness.’”
The last time Pink earned a standing ovation was for her performance at the 2010 Grammy Awards, where she performed her song “Glitter in the Air” while twirling around nearly naked in a fabric trapeze suspended high above the audience.
Incredibly, the singer has no formal training as a dancer beyond childhood dance classes, though Durell said, “Naturally she’s such an amazing dancer.”
But what she lacks in training she makes up for in determination.
“Pink just has such drive and she’s such a perfectionist,” Durell said. “If you give her a correction once, the next time you watch it, she’s already implementing it.
“Not only that, she’s asking for it,” Durell said. “Like she’ll say, ‘Be hard on me, guys.’ She wants to be her best.’”
Days before the performance, Pink pulled her hip flexor and an old shoulder injury flared up, but she told the choreographers not to worry.
“But I really hope she’s resting today,” Durell said, “and really nurturing and appreciating her body because she deserves it.”

Did P!nk Not Give The Most Memorable Performance At The American Music Awards Last Night?
Not sure if you were watching last night, but the American Music Awards are, well, they’re just a little bit of a joke. Hey hey. We’re not saying that award-winners don’t deserve the honor. And we’re not saying that forty years of tradition, one spawned by the late great Dick Clark, is anything to sneeze at. It’s just not determined by any kind of industry professional – it’s chosen by audiences and music buyers. COOL! Power to the people. The populous finally has a voice in a nebulous and overwrought award season! Except, they end up choosing Justin Bieber as Artist of the Year.
More than anything though, there’s reason enough to love the AMAs for their performances. And they are many. The performances make up for the watered-down and hilariously mild award recipients. Allow us to just recap some of last night’s winners: JB beat out Maroon 5, Drake, Katy Perry and Rihanna as Artist of the Year, the “Old Navy New Artist of the Year” went to Carly Rae Jepsen over Gotye, fun., J. Cole and One Direction, Pop/Rock Male Artist went to JB, again, over Flo Rida, Pitbull and Usher, and the Pop/Rock Female Artist is Rihanna, not Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj or Kelly Clarkson. That’s just a little taste. Check out this lovely Wikipedia entry that nicely charts out the rest of the bogus field.
To the performances. Standouts being buzzed about? Ke$ha. Social media lit up with her “flapjack ass” and “excellent tuck.” Christina tried to peddle new material from Lotus, but, well, the performance kind of fell flat. Kelly Clarkson did a solid job with a hits medley, Carrie Underwood was a professional, and then MC Hammer teamed up with that cot-damn PSY for a finale with, oh you know. Here’s an excellent roundup with every single performance embedded.
