As Ace put it, "Sing" features just about every female artist who wasn't on "Just Stand Up!" (and some who were). Annie and 23 gal pals—including Madonna, who takes the second verse—came together for this funky, danceable benefit single for HIV/AIDS. Moments of genuine affect are offset by some gloriously campy touches, a mix that I would have expected to resonate more on ATRL.
Aww, I'm sad about "Sing" Any song with Annie AND Angélique Kidjo together should always do better.
(I blame this on many of you probably rating that dance mix...)
Lauryn hopped aboard the final single from John Legend's debut album, offering a guest rap and some raspy vocals to this neo-soul jam about the transportive power of being in love. Under the production of old collaborator Wyclef Jean, the "Cloud 9 Remix" elevates a dreamy piano ballad into a statement of groovy ecstasy.
Wynonna was already drifting toward adult contemporary tendencies on this lead single from her third album, which gave her a fourth—and, to date, final—#1 hit on the county chart. There's a comforting warmth to the song's soft arrangement and Wynonna's declarations of dedication that unfortunately seems to have gone underappreciated by voters (though if not for YSL, it could have finished about twenty spots higher).
