There was nothing "low-key" about
21. Adele may have been "low-key" for months thanks to her vocal injury, but her songs were everywhere. On radio, in coffee shops, on every singing competition on TV, on every ABC/TBS/Fox/etc. promo. Even the album tracks got that sort of attention.
21 swept every award show, won over critics and even had many people thinking it was the revival of "real music." The album sold like crazy and is still selling like crazy, and has reached more audiences than the pop and AC crowds. There's no way you can call a definitive era like
21 "low-key."
Teenage Dream is a memorable era, but outside of the multiple hits, it just wasn't as impacting as
21.
