Well several online sources are reporting this. Get ready for a May or June release. Save your money and wait it off, just how you waited it off with the iphone 4/4s for the iphone 5. You know it will most likely have NFC this time around with an additional 1" of height.

But anyways.... It won't have NFC. Apple is already committed to electronic barcodes with Passbook which has already far surpassed real world availability compared to NFC. I'm pretty sure we will see a fingerprint scanner (Apple bought a security company that specializes in this a couple of months ago). Same design. Faster processor. iOS 7 (this needs to be a major update for Apple to get back in the game on the software side).

We could possibility see a summer release date, but we know Apple starts production of prototypes way in advance so it could be just another fall date. Too early at this point to know...

I agree. On the hardware side (Jonny Ive, Bob Mansfield) Apple has been innovating pretty incredibly these past few years (retina iPad, retina MBPs, A6, battery technology, thinness in iPhone 5/iMac/iPad Mini, better build quality/materials). The software has been LACKING.

The head of iOS Scott Forestall has been fired and Jonny Ive has taken over the iOS UI department.

This guy is the best and most innovative guy at Apple, behind Steve of course...

Google pretty much has stole all the thunder in the software side. I mean the UI/OS upgrade and evolution in android is appalling, they've come so far from the first version. Apple still looks the same and have even taken cues from android the notification bar and face unlock.

I think there is an argument that Apple got it right the first time, thus drastic change wasn't necessary for a while.

I'm hoping that there will be an another iOS revolution (like 2007) and Apple rethinks the whole homescreen/App launcher, which is in DIRE need of improvement.

Edit: Oh and multitasking needs to be redone. It's terrible right now under iOS 6. It's even more terrible on the iPad because it doesn't take advantage of the larger workspace. WebOS had the best multitasking solution with its "cards" UI.

Yes but the whole "if it aint broke dont fix it" argument could prove disastrous. For years Nokia and RIM where the industry leaders but were to stubborn to evolve the software aspect and relied solely on established user base loyalty. Look where they are now. Not that Apple is going anywhere though but I mean 75Percent market share snatched just this year by Android smarthphones!? It would make me pressed.
