On ATRL a lot of ATRLers who have active ATRL accounts and therefore go on ATRL on a daily basis, say that on ATRL, 'iconic' is a wee overused.

Like people say that thread are iconic when actually only ATRLers will know them.

So do you think what is iconic to one person, is not iconic to the other? So iconic is in the eye of the beholder?

For example Jessie J is iconic to me (and to most British people), but I know there are a lot of Americans and Chinese who think that she isn't.

like there are obvious iconic artists that everyone will agree on instantly, but then sometimes you have that one artist that appeals to only a certain number of people that would deem them as iconic.

No. It has to be accepted by the majority of people that someone/something is iconic for it to be so.

The subjectivity lies in their discography. Their legacy and impact on pop culture is something that cannot be disputed. They either have or they haven't.

Jessie J is not an icon. Icon's the likes of Madonna, Britney, MJ etc. Being popular and having a successful debut album isn't enough to define "iconic" hun.
