But she needs to release new material. I need me some Katy Purrry.
Katy has been constant from May 2010 to the whole first half of 2012. That's a very long time.
I wouldn't expect her to have anything new out for a while. She needs to develop a new record.
Not only has pop culture/media got more boring since 2008, but also the music has. Apart from a few like Boom Boom Pow, Single Ladies, Somebody That I Used to Know, we don't get any "weird" songs being hits anymore. It's all a bit safe and radio friendly now, I miss those songs where you go "Wow, that's so weird" when you first hear them, like Wind It Up or Ayo Technology or Fergalicious. You won't find Katy Perry or Flo Rida or Lady Gaga releasing a song like those.
A legitimate question, but how is "Single Ladies" weird?
But anyway, I somewhat agree. But then again, 2012 has been a big year for alternative/indie acts breaking into the mainstream. "Somebody That I Used to Know", "We Are Young", "Little Talks", "Lights" and more have all become hits across the globe, which is a lot compared to last year.
The dance-pop era is still going strong, but compared to last year, it's definitely backing off and the charts are just starting to become a little bit more diverse again.

Single Ladies has a really weird instrumental. It's a load of clapping, and a bunch of strange clicky and computer sounds popping up everywhere. The first few times I heard it on the radio it was like "I can't believe they're ACTUALLY playing this". lol But it's different now. Nothing "weird" gets released by any of the main artists anymore. And in the rare case something does (e.g. Birthday Cake), it doesn't really become a massive hit.
The melt-downs when Single Ladies got released. And then the meltdowns when it didn't flop.
I agree with what you said though. The alternative boom has been definitely one of the best things this year, and has made it a lot better than 2011. I believe in the future when we look back at 2012, we'll remember it as the start of the alternative comeback.
Yeah, I do! I hope some of those songs can be hits.
I just miss the days when sometimes you'd get pop songs with lots of weird noises and sounds in, that sounded like NOTHING else you'd ever heard before, but they're still really catchy. Like these:
I just miss when the pop girls used to be experimental. Now they all just do the same Dr. Luke guitar-disco songs that my grandparents like to listen to. There's no attitude anymore.
I'm cool with my faves but it is the industry that is a little stall. There are no new innovative groups like The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin. Or artists like MJ, David Bowie, real artists that bring new things to the table.

Obviously, that's one of the reasons why I got into the 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s. I'm never going fully back either. The artists and the music ***** on the current girl's discographies. No competition.
