American Life is the album in which she discovered her own unique sound, folktronia. it's very respected in some circles, praised as her best work and so very misunderstood by poptards. born this way is far more commercial, while at times also a bit experimental with german sounds.

anyway, don't anyone dare to shade the masterpiece that is confessions. without that one there'd be no britney dance albums, or "the fame monster"..

I prefer american life over confessions though, just because it really is a record that isn't like that of anyone else's. for real.

yet it's her best album, showing off her amazing songwriting skills and she produced the record almost entirely herself as well.. (she mostly does, but this is her truest sound)
