If actors don't write the scripts of the movies and plays they act in, and artist don't create the materials they draw/paint etc. with, why are singers looked down upon if they don't write the songs they sing?

It's one of the ways they discredit the success of singers they don't like.

And when actors do write the scripts, and act in it and it does wonderful, they get praised to the high heavens. Same way for artists writing songs and it being amazing.

Because they're 2 different jobs?
Honestly, I think it makes music much more worth listening too if a artist wrote it themselves, even if it sucks, at least they tried.

High profile actors writing their own scripts for successful movies is very rare.

Some actors do write movies they appear in. In fact, it used to be the norm in the days of plays and touring theater companies.

Writing is part of being a total artist. It a form of expression. We've heard Max Martin's expressions for years now. It's not authentic for a singer to sing someone else's words and definitely not try to pass it off as being a true expression of they are. It's not. It's an expression of a writer like Max Martin, a writing session room filled with writers, or the label's idea to keep their bottom line of profits.

You are not a fully expressed artist if you can't write as well. There's a lot more to this than saying/singing the words.

Actors act, Singers sing and Artists create "art".
You can call singers like Lady Gaga artists but you cant call singers like Katy Perry artists.

While not as rare, it applies with artists too.

It doesn't make sense to me. Just because you can sing doesn't you write music. Some people just aren't good at writing lyrics or can't produce music.

Just like how all songwriters aren't singer. People just do that to bash artists and it's a weak argument.

Writing a script and having a movie made around it and starring in it is MUCH more expensive than writing and recording a song. It's pretty rare for that to happen and is FAR more impressive.

Most people just aren't writers, though. So I don't discredit an artist for not writing their own material as long as they can emote and convey the message of the song.. and sound great while doing it.

And even when they don't, if it's a great piece of art, it's still going to be seen as a great piece of art.

Either be an impeccable vocalist or have something unique to offer artistically, whether it's producing or songwriting.

Because it takes talent to act and talent to sing. If you're an artist and you can't sing well or write, what exactly is your purpose? Madonna is not praised for her singing ability. She's praised for her artistic achievement. If she didn't write or wasn't creative, she would not have made the impact she has.

Well because creating a whole damn movie is a job on its own. Writing your own song is part of the job, that's why it's looked down if you don't do it

I don't look down on artists who don't write their own songs because songwriters are talented people too, and they deserve work and validation.

Though I do *sometimes* look down on artists who blatantly seek out hit songwriters and cram in redundant songs in the desperate hope to reach the top of the charts. That's just business and not art.
