I support "Die Young" but I have to agree with this statement. I really want it to be the next single.

I don't even think its the streaming thats throwing everything off, it's the added weight on airplay.
But because billboard changed the airplay weight at the same time as streaming, everyone thought it was the streaming that was making everything so different.
But now with one more night at 8 weeks at #1, it's become very clear that airplay is the culprit

All the other songs to spend that long felt like they were huge...with WAY, STIUTK, CMM, and even WFL, there were ppl singing it all the time, televisions shows were playing it all the time
They felt like smashes and they felt like they were just that big
OMN doesn't feel like it...4 weeks, sure but soon to be 10 weeks...I'm just not feeling it

Amen to that! It's the song that has been spending 7 weeks at #2 that is on the level of those other songs you mentioned

Yeah I feel the same. After all those huge songs OMN success feels out of place. Even Taylor's single felt bigger than OMN.

You hit the nail on the head, really. OMN DOES feel like a #1 hit song, just as "Payphone" did (even though a) I hated the song, and b) It was going up against CMM, so it really didn't have much of a chance), but a 10+ week #1? I mean, not even STIUTK and CMM reached 10+ weeks, and those songs both felt MUCH bigger than OMN does.

I wouldn't have minded Taylor's song spending 8 weeks at blocking gangnam style, but one more night is nowhere near that either

If label would allow WANEGBT on streaming even after few weeks after release weeks, I think it could have additional 3-4 weeks @ #1. It's doing really good on streaming currently.

But "Call Me Maybe", the longest running #1 of the year so far, didn't even hit #1 on radio. Airplay isn't as massive as people like to say - everyone exaggerates so much. Sales are still the #1 factor, we're just in a slow part of the year.

Billboard said in an article when they included streaming that they kept airplay the same as before, and decreased digital (to make room for streaming).
I agree that One More Night doesn't seem like such a big hit though, especially after how massive Call Me Maybe, Whistle, We Are Young, etc. were.

No, they specifically said digital took the forefront in the makeup. I've posted the quote so many times I don't feel like finding it yet again lol.

CMM was big on radio. Only 3 songs was bigger than it on radio STIUTK, WAY and Payphone.
OMN maybe now have more AI but it's because of Mediabase reweighing.

That's because digital sales were so much higher when CMM was reigning. The Hot 100 would be much more efficient if they made the 3 factors(airplay, streaming, and sales) into percentages in stead of just saying a certain amount equals 1 point.

They don't actually say a certain amount of sales or airplay is one point, that's just a myth perpetuated by people trying and so far failing to guess the chart formula.

Rihanna selling so well without a video.
I feel like the top 3 has been the same for 5 years now.

I didn't say digital wasn't the forefront. Billboard said that they decreased digitial, and "replaced" some of it with streaming. It's still perfectly possible that digital was still the main factor after decreasing it a bit. Both what you and I read can be true.

Digital can easily count the most in weeks were sales are much higher, but in weeks like this it's basically all determined by airplay and streaming. They need to find a way to balance the sales so it doesn't flip flop up and down so much. The low sales periods kill some songs peak position.

Even with the old rules, I remember Rude Boy getting 6 weeks at #1 without ever reaching #1 on iTunes, because it crossed over and got massive airplay, which is like what's happening with One More Night now.
