I think the figures are true. The day after the iPhone 5 was announced, I heard a lot of buzz about it among people I passed by (which is odd for device announced the day before). It's crazy how Apples releases + events are the largest in all sectors. They even get more buzz than E3 in media + in the GP which I didn't think was possible. The tablet + smartphone market are hardly near their peak. That's why these are still selling well every year.
Form factor + lightness seem to be some of the top points for the Mini/iPhone 5 sales from what I've heard. Battery life is also the best on the market from the Mini according to Engadget + other sources (lasts 11hr+).

True.
Yes, that's true too. I guess when this market becomes mature we won't see this happening all the time.
That's another thing that draws me to the mini. My 2009 unibody MacBook doesn't last more than two hours under most conditions. It's all my fault for charging it too much and not turning it off enough, but iOS things can take abuses that laptop batteries can't. My iPhone gets charged every night when I sleep and I often charge it when I'm in my dorm during the day and the battery life hasn't gotten noticeably worse since I got it a year ago. I'm constantly using the cell connection for internet too, since it's not hooked up to my campus wifi, and I can still get through the school day without charging if I want to.
