It sounds a lot like Exo's version in my opinion, and it's not really a demo—it's an actual song that came out a couple years ago by a dance group named Beast Mode. SM bought the rights to remake the song.
Basically they are saying that it feels a bit late because end of the year's coming up soon and they want to make a perfect album. They'll keep the Japanese promotion for the new album
