I remember Keyshia Cole being on the cover of Essence a few years back.
This trend of Essence not featuring young, black singers may very well be recent because I'm sure if we looked hard enough, we could find old Essence covers of Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston when they were in their 20's. I'm pretty sure that A-keys and L-Boogie have been on the cover as well.
The thing about the whole age demo aspect is that it's not like Rihanna hasn't been on magazine covers with readerships that are older than she is. The average Vogue reader is in her 30's.
As for all of you saying, "oh does it matter . . ." "she has two Vogue covers" blah, blah, blah . . . I'm trying to put this nicely . . .but um, Ebony and Essence are significant for reasons that you may not understand.
