Ever since he showed up for her last "Chicago" performance in London's West End, Ashlee Simpson has said she's dying to work with Robert Smith of the Cure — but he's not the only name on the list of collaborators for her third album. The singer has been hard at work writing songs with Timbaland, John Legend, Kenna, and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, a source close to the project told MTV News. If that list sounds unusual to you, it should — Ashlee is going for a more "soulful" sound on her new album, she told Cosmopolitan for the mag's June cover story, and has been listening to a lot of India.Arie, Tori Amos and Fiona Apple for inspiration. "This record is not like, 'I didn't steal your boyfriend' or anything like that," she told Cosmo. "But who knows what's going to happen in the next few months. I'll probably have my heart broken and then end up with one of those kinds of songs on there." Don't count on it, though. "I'm in a stronger place now," Simpson insisted. "I'm coming into my womanhood, and it's changing my music."

I doubt she can pull it off. If I remember right, her last album was supposed to be "punk".

I trust her, and the last album was so good, not punk completely but most near than other posers . this album will be the best of her career

Maybe. If she got some decent songwriters, and doesnt try and stretch her voice. It might turn out ok.

I hope so, this album will be a lot of different than I Am Me and Autobiography, she wants to leave the break-ups songs for more mature as a woman.

I think I'll give this a listen when it comes out. If she really is trying to mature...I admire that. Especially with all these artists going downhill *coughlavignecough*, people need some good sincere artists.

Me too, I have the wish that this album will be a more seriously album but I don't know, the people that she's writing is totally different that the last 2 albums!, I love Avril, and I love TBDT but she is wrong when she wants to return more to Let Go, Under My Skin was a such a decent album but this, specially Girlfriend is a total turn.

i knew she loved soul, i remember when she dropped by to MTV TRL UK and Joss video "You Had Me" was played, and ashlee didn't know her but she said "I love it, it's so soul and i like it...i'm going to pick up her cd now"...and i was wow, that was the only reason why i started to love ashlee that time...lol

Its not that people dont care for Ashlee, she just isnt a tabloid star like Jessica. They're lots of singers who arent talked about like Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado.
I'm kinda in between with this album, I know it will be amazing because her last two were amazing and i loved the whole pop-rock teen angst feel to it but now I hope she's not giving up the whole rock thing cos thats why I love her music! The producers of the album are hot though so it could still come out amazing <3
And wasnt "Burning Up" supposed to be soul? Thats like her worst song everrr

I think Burning Up was released because Ashlee is very fanatic of Madonna's same title song Burning Up but she wants to do her own version. But it could be a Bonus track, i prefer Kicking and Screaming

Chad Hugo (Pharrell's partner in the Neptunes production team and co-conspirator on the Star Traks label) told EW that he was still in the studio with Ashlee Simpson, and that people would be "amazed" by what they've got so far. "I think she's really gonna surprise people on this. She's been underestimated."
