They get some sort of odd strange satisfaction out of proving a point about Taylor's plagiarism on an online forum, hating on someone like that must take so much worthless energy its not even funny its like, sad.

Let me quote Skittles.

Nah, she'll stay a fan, his music is pretty good and Taylor isn't one to get too butthurt over this, at least not to the point where she won't enjoy his music. if anything she'll feel bad and rectify the situation. And she'll probably have to pay him a settlement. The lyrics isn't all that special, but she definitely plagiarized it, although more than likely not intentionally.
She def plagiarized. No question about that. It may have been that she had listened to the song recently and when she was writing thought she came up with the lyric herself. I dunno it's fishy.
As a songwriter myself, I've found myself un-internationally writing a similar line to what I've heard in a song before. That's probably all it was. Not a big deal. It's not like the iconic line that Snoop then went and used in "California Gurls".
lol who cares if it's a coincidence or not. even if she wrote something else instead of that, it wouldn't have made a single difference this guy is actually like the song is a huge hit because of the 'stolen' line that is 'his'
This. I can't at people saying "oh it's just one line".
It's like university. My friend copied a sentence online, did not source it, and the teacher (who caught him) reported him and now it's on his academic record for plagiarism. Plagiarism is plagiarism, it does not matter who you are.
And people saying " i lost all respect for her" never respected her in the first place. If it was the case they would realise how stupid this whole situation is
I used to like him but what kind of pretentious songwriter is this guy? I can probably do the same thing to his own lyrics again and again and accuse him of stealing too.
You guys keep saying it's not an unique line, but why is it that the only google results of such a line/sentiment only relays you back to these two songs? If it were so simple or common enough, it would have shown up more than just in these two cases.
I think it was a case of unintentional plagiarism. She unknowingly remember the general idea of the line and thought she'd come up with it on her own - forgetting that she'd heard it already in his song. There's nothing wrong with admitting it.
