It may not have sold 5M but its close to those 3M which no one can say is a bad result when its one of the 200 best selling songs ever digitally.
The 'problem' with Rihanna's songs is that she releases new singles faster than usual artists and she doesnt promote them to the extreme as she prefers to have more quantity of singles rather than huge sellers.
Look at Loud's example... The first 3 singles sold just about the same (3.4M-2.9M-3.4M) and all 3 of them where HUGE... but they where living with each other and stealing sales one another.
WFL is stil Top200 on iTunes so... it made an impact and 5M copies sold is not something to be ashamed of.

It's not that it isn't urban. You can't use the "urban songs don't sell well" context for her, because in most cases that goes towards songs like "Climax," "Motivation" or "Adorn".. prominent urban radio songs that don't have the promo or Pop radio support to sell copies. "Rude Boy" topped Top 40 for two weeks. That's what I meant.
Otherwise, I agree there may be some exact reasons her songs aren't as big as they seem. And I'm not trying to take away "WFL" success, just everything I said is noteworthy. It did very well for herself considering her songs never see that kind of reaction.
