Hmm, how do I put this? Making disaster relief a state matter would be, well, a disaster. States are not capable of responding in the way that the federal government can to natural disasters. The support provided by FEMA and the National Guard would DWARF any state-run disaster relief and make the clean-up process so much easier. And let's not forget that it's possible to lose more lives after the disaster than during the actual disaster itself. Do you think that the states will be able to prevent further loss of life in a way that the federal government already does? Because, other than the most populous states, I can't see it. How much of a disaster would it have been if, say, Kentucky had to conduct their own relief program after the tornado outbreak in early March? I shudder to think.
Oh, and am I the only one who thinks that the last bolded statement is just reeking with condescension? "We love our fellow Americans and wish them well during this hurricane, even though we want to cut off the best means of helping them after the storm and drastically reduce the quality of disaster relief. Good luck, guys!"

I will never understand liberal logic... The federal government shouldn't be in disaster relief... States would handle it far better...
