Yeah sorry, I'm a Demi stan but she's taking her vocals in the WRONG direction.
Her vibrato is deteriorating and she isn't able to hold a steady note anymore. Demi's taking the Christina route and it's starting to show. She needs to learn to harness those technical skills like Kelly does without abusing them and letting them ruin the rest of your voice.
That national anthem performance was atrocious. Demi, stop listening to Aguilera's music. Focus on some more Kelly.
Yes, her second album Here We Go Again was very Kelly-like. But that was old Demi, she's clearly trying to morph into something else. Fair enough, but she needs to take care of her voice in the process.
This is Demi singing back in the day. Compare that to the national anthem performance, you can see she's getting worse. The oversinging she's been doing recently...
The belt at 2:35 >>>>>> anything demi's been doing recently.
I don't think her voice is deteriorating at all. If anything its getting stronger, especially since she's stopped purging. (her voice was horrible during the HWGA era).
She has had alot of great performances during the Unbroken era that have impressed me. I agree that the NA anthem was a mess and her voice was all over the place. She really only needs to work on her technique and I think everything else would fall into place after that.
The La La Land performance was good but there is more to vocals than strong belts. Her control was kind of a mess there and she's improved so much singing that song now.
We still don't know exactly what sound or direction she's going with musically. So I'll wait until I hear it to judge if she's "morphing into something else" or not.

I, for one, am happy she's not trying to make the Carrie/Taylor version of country or even the loud Country/Rock that seems to have taken over country.
Soulful country = Kelly's true calling.
Yes I remember her saying if she ever went into Country she would take the more old school soulful route over the Pop/Country route and its perfect for her. This could be amazing for her if everything goes well.

I liked it.
Don't get me wrong, she's had some amazing vocals this era. The intimate Vevo performances were damn amazing. But she's gotten into a habit of oversinging some songs, which will ultimately ruin her voice.
For example. Give your heart a break, after the big note, she does this stupid repeat run thing:
Exclusive! Justin Hawkins Talks About His Song For Kelly Clarkson
The Darkness's Justin Hawkins is one of the top rock songwriters of the 2000s, not only penning such Darkness classics as "Love On The Rocks With No Ice," "Get Your Hands Off My Woman," "Knockers," "Dinner Lady Arms," and "Everybody Have A Good Time," and his other band Hot Leg's "Gay In The '80s" and "I've Met Jesus" (the man never disappoints with his song titles), but also anthems for fellow rock gods Foxy Shazam and Meat Loaf, and even many commercial jingles. Justin also famously wrote one of my all-time favorite Adam Lambert tunes, "Music Again," a song that once caused me to lose my dang mind. Well, it's time for me to lose my mind all over again, because in a recent exclusive interview with Yahoo! Music, Justin amazingly reveals that he has submitted a song to another "American Idol" star, Kelly Clarkson. Cue squeeing now.
Unfortunately, the song has one lyric that needs altering before Kelly can consider it...
"Kelly Clarkson had a song [of mine] on hold, but unfortunately, within the lyrics, it talks about my mustache," Justin says. "So it needs a slight rewrite. She liked the tune, but I'm not sure if she was really feeling the subject matter."
The key hairy lyrics Justin is referring to are: "Tell me, baby, did I pique your curiosity with the sweet wheels in my garage? / Do you love me for my money or my uniform, or do you only love me for my mustache?" Personally, I think Kelly has a fantastic enough voice to get away with such a gender-bending line, but hopefully she'll get to record the Hawkins song, sans "mustache," someday. My life would suck without hearing that collaboration.

I agree she oversings way too much. Hopefully she grows out of that doesn't go the route that Xtina did.

It is more Soul than Country and it sounds really cool IMO
Will this be released to Country Radio only? It has potential for AC and maybe even HAC but Catch My Breath is doing amazing on those formats so I don't want Don't Rush to ruin it.
At the same time I want Kelly to break her own record but if its only released to Country it won't.

She sounded like how xtina would sing right after 1:04.
Earlier this afternoon, The Big 98 WSIX premiered a new track from GREATEST HITS - CHAPTER ONE, "Don't Rush" featuring Vince Gill. The track will be available for sale on iTunes starting tomorrow, Oct. 30th. Listen here now! - Team KC
OMG it's amazing!! Kelly sounds incredibly sexy on it. Wow. I have a feeling this is a little taste of the 6th Lovelly album we're getting in terms of lyrics
