Actually Austin is dubbed the second "Silicon Valley", and the cities are nice and pleasant. No dust.
Our beaches ARE NOT covered in oil. South Padre Island is a big beach resort town with white sand beaches. And we are not home to the Jersey Shore. 
Not all of Texas is homophobic. Sure, many conservatist christians are, But many cities like Austin are very Liberal and accepting.

Tex-Mex is not real Mexican food, sorry. The best Mexican food, outside of Mexico, is found in Cali (no competition). And boasting about frying food is nothing cute considering the obesity rate in Texas is not cute. I would say that Cali has the most diversity in food, but New Orleans probably takes the cake when it comes to cooking.
And Texas really isn't all that, it gets lost in the sea of California, New York, Florida tourism.
