Considering album sales were in the gutter in 2012 and single sales don't mean that much without album sales. You can't do dat.

But the GP does not think Lana or Carly when they think of the big pop stars. So no. Kesha and Nicki were the last ones.

Album sales are in the gutter, and last I heard Lana was at 2.9 million worldwide.
And Carly's alberm is at over 300k worldwide after just five weeks, compared to Animal which had 400k WW after 5 weeks, and One of the Boys which had 200k WW after 5 weeks - so biggest selling female single of 2012, and she's selling albums similarly to that of/greater than the major pop girls before her.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I don't think there has been a new "pop girl" since. Nicki broke out around the same time as Ke$ha, but it took her a while for her to really cement her status, where as Ke$ha blew up right away. Carly Rae Jepsen could of been, but her album hasn't done that well. I believe there will be someone else soon though.
