Wasn't sure where to post this, but anyways:

My iPod classic was working fine until I turned it on and noticed a black dot in the top left corner with color coming out and more black coming out of the color.

According to google, that means the inner screen is cracked, and leaking out an ink-like substance

Note that the outer screen is fine, and this wasn't caused by me.

Does anyone know what I should do. The Apple website is a pain, and the phone line isn't open for another 9-ish hours.


-Would Apple replace or fix this?
-Would going to the Apple Store be a good idea?
-How much would an iPod Classic cost on Black Friday

Probably the best is get a new screen.

Get a new screen before it leaks bigger.

Unless you have Apple Care or your warranty isn't up yet, then try to go to the Apple Store.

The savings from Apple Black Friday Sales are so negligible that it's really not worth waiting for.

Lol. Guess we were both shafted by Apple, because mine started getting dead pixels recently. I can't with them building products to break.

How long ago did you buy it? How much AppleCare do you have left? Have you dropped it recently, or has the iPod been harmed in any way?

It would be easiest to go to an Apple Store. I don't know if they'll charge you or not, an LCD cracking is something that companies usually associate with user damage, because 99% of the time that doesn't just happen out of nowhere. But still, even if they did charge you, I don't think it would be too much since those are pretty small screens.

Apple's Black Friday deals are never very good so it's not worth waiting for, unless you really want a new iPod.

It's definitely not user damage. The ipod is is nearly perfect condition, and has never been dropped. I receieved the ipod as a gift, so I'm not personally aware about the applecare stuff... can you please tell me about it?

Okay, well just make sure you push it on them that you definitely did not damage it. If the outer screen isn't cracked, then they'll believe you when you say you didn't drop it, but it still could've possibly happened to pressure on the screen (if it was in a tight pocket, stuffed in a bag, etc). They're usually pretty sympathetic about things so there's probably a 75% chance you'll get a free screen replacement.

Their laptop chargers are ridiculous. I'm on my 3rd or 4th one. Thankfully I haven't needed to replace the charger that came with this computer since I got it... yet.

Are you kidding? Apple has some of the longest lasting products on the market. The only bad development they've ever done was the iPhone 4/4S.

It depends. if the leaking is too serious. They may replace a new one to you with a cost around $95

Ikr? Apple's products last longer than any other brand, thanks to their unmatched quality. The only time an Apple product breaks down is if the user mistreats it or it's one of the very few bad 'apples' my first gen iPod Touch (that I never use anymore) still works with no damage to it.
