Will Alicia help save/reinvent R&B?
R&B is basically dead in terms of sales. 500k is now the average selling R&B album, if lucky.
Alicia is looking to have a huge comeback, Girl on Fire is #11 on iTunes combined, and her album is doing well in pre-orders.
She is one of very few who may have the power to help bring back R&B to mainstream or make it relevant again. Do you think she will?

No, not with songs like "Not Even a King" or "Girl on Fire."

Name any other R&B song this year that was played on Z100 besides Girl on Fire.
None.

I think it'll take all of the girls performing and releasing good music. I think it's on it's way, Ciara looks promising, Brandy is coming hard, Rihanna always does well, Keyshia Cole is coming.
Then Bey hopefully in early 2013, it'll be back.
even the boys are doing good, Miguel, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean.
2013 I think will determine the future of R&B

Ciara is flopping as usual, so is Keyshia. None of them are even close to crossing over. Brandy did well on the R&B charts, but opened with 66,000. Thats not saving anything.

I don't think have really even started yet, and I don't care about the sales and charts, I'm talking about the quality of music. Because it's been stale for like 3 years...

Oh so because GOF is getting some spins on Z100, she's bringing R&B back to the forefront? Please, GOF won't bring anything back to the forefront, and its repetitiveness is nothing exciting for the R&B genre. She may do well for herself, but she is hardly going to save R&B, and I would rather other R&B to breakthrough. I love Alicia, but her music is tired now.

The Quality has been good this year. Alicia can contribute but not help save anything that doesn't need to be saved.
She may just sell the most for obvious reasons.

Not with the songs she premiered so far. I think men have a chance to make it happen : Frank Ocean and Miguel among others.

Miguel is doing well for himself but not in general, ciara is having a hard start, just as brandy. Rihanna, I don't consider her R&B, Frank Ocean done really well.
4 done very well, but it's only because Beyonce name. When Beyonce return in 2013, I think it will be more Pop influence than R&B.
Alicia always does well.

Eh
I would say more Alternative or Progressive R&B, especially if we're gonna bring them up in the same thread as Alicia/Monica/Brandy/Mary J.
