I was upset yesterday so I did a lot. I recorded a song I made back in July, did a Call Me Maybe cover, and a melody for a song (I need an original beat but I don't know how to make one.

i produce instrumentals sometimes when i'm feeling overwhelmed by stuff. i write choruses, too. i write full lyrics sometimes, but i haven't in months.

right now i'm trying to see if i can produce a Dr. Luke inspired instrumental, but it's a lot harder than it seems then again i'm working with an amateur program.

oh and i do remixes sometimes too! i did remixes of Where Have You Been and Set Fire To The Rain a month ago.

right now i'm trying to do a remix of Colors of the Wind, but like ugh. it's frustrating remixing.

I'm doing a course on Sound Engineering and Production for the next 3 years, so I'm going to be working on music a lot. I love it though.

I only make instrumentals though, mainly grime at the moment.

I agree. I've tried aswell (on FL Studio and Sibelius). A lot of his songs sound almost the same, but they're also very complex imo. And funnily enough, E.T., which is one of his best beats imo, is also probably one of the easiest.

I really love Stargate. Their songs are easier to remake (or make other songs of a similar style), and they sound AMAZING imo. They use a program call Pro Tools to make their instrumentals.

maybe. depends on the melody. because my program is really... strict with homemade melodies. and it depends on the genre. i mostly do dance/electro pop music to keep to a familiar formula.

Usually they do it the other way around (like the producer makes the instrumental, then they singer/song writers come up with lyrics and a melody over it). It's much easier that way for everybody, and gives more musical freedom.

However, if you want to do it the other way around, it's easier for the beat-maker, if you can give a chord progression rather than the melody.

How can I find a chord progression?

I'm in the middle of trying to find an acapella so I can mix it.

ACID Xpress is good for loop-based production. (It's also free, so that's good if you're just using it for fun)

Although, if you're really serious about having a music career, I'd definitely go with Samplitude. ACID Xpress is really really good (it's what I use), but it definitely has its restrictions.

Also, you could head over to ProducerLoops, you can find some good royalty-free producer's packs. They usually cost around $10-20. I'm not sure about free loops though. Sorry.
