Well, technically it kind of is. India and some of the countries around it are considered to be a "subcontinent," I think because of the way that that area is separated from the rest of Asia by mountains and stuff like that. I could be wrong about the reasoning, though, so here's the Wiki article for further reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_subcontinent
And about the video: I agree it was overkill, and I don't condone a man putting his hands on a woman (it's just typically an unfair fight due to sizes, physical strength, etc.), but I also agree with Whoopi that some women try to take advantage of this social norm we have about inter-gender violence and think they can get away with putting their hands on men whenever they want just because they (mostly) won't hit back. And that to me is total ********.
It's a subcontinent, not a continent. So she's wrong.
I subscribe to gender equality. Therefore a man hitting a man is no worse than a man hitting a woman.
In this case the woman hit the man first. A physical response by the man to the woman - in view of gender equality - was therefore not inexcusable per se.
However. The man's physical reaction was so brutal as to be disproportionate. He went too far. And so his action was wrong and he deserves punishment.
I agree with Whoopi. I'm a feminist, and I don't consider women to be inferior beings who deserve special treatment. I don't treat a woman any different than I'd treat a man. If the driver had punched a man, there'd be no controversy over this video.
The idea that women should be able to get away with being violent towards men just because they are women is ridiculous. No one should ever be violent with anyone.
