Was Rita wrong for what she said or are people overreacting? discuss. Who's to blame for the perpetuation of such stereotypes? Is this a fem vs masc "problem" within the gay community?

No, but they have every reason to be "sensitive" given the fact that homosexuality has such a negative connotation & people in general can be very ignorant with understanding them and why they are the way they are.

I respect myself and make my voice heard when I read something ignorant and stupid.

How so? I mean, we can't really compare what she said to some racist remark. It was about her best friend who acts feminine. Then people get offended by a slight comment. She didn;t say anything like "all gays go to hell."

A group of people who have worked for generations to get people to stop thinking of them as women generally won't respond positively to a remark like that. What do you expect?

Well, then there's the ignorant response of saying "why do they act like women then?" But I'd rather not go into that. Eventually stereotypes will go away but I mean, let's be honest, we all generalize. Who's to blame? The fems? They were born that way. I'm just saying what she said was not as bad as denouncing someone as less intelligent/competent based on the color of the skin.

There is no such thing as "Acting like a woman." Phrases like that are where stereotypes come from. Not all women act the same and not all women have to act the same. A gay man being flamboyant is not acting like a woman.
