As a black male, I agree with her BUT I do see where the other guy was coming from. Entrance into college should be based off qualifications BUT factors like Kerry described such as socioeconomics and background should give the admission officers some perspective on the applicant so they know where the applicant came from and what they were working with. Now I'm not advocating accepting a black male with a 27 ACT score over a white male with a 29 ACT score just because you want a diverse campus. I believe in admitting people who are truly qualified. Now if an applicant was raised with little resources and showed true potential, I could understand admitting them over someone with highers scores but shows less drive and determination.
