I don't want Gaga to end up like Cyndi Lauper and have Katy/Rihanna become more remembered than Gaga in 20 years time. I don't want her to become like Cher either, a kinda non-factor that has huge tour sales but not-so-huge chart receipts.

Every album is somewhat make or break. You can rise or fall with each release. Especially if you're actually pushing the boat out a bit.
Truthfully, I feel like we shouldn't be too nervous. BTW was a wake up call to Gaga and her team. It was still a smash, but it gave them enough of a slap to ensure they don't rest on their laurels and be complacent. Had BTW had no backlash, I feel they'd be going into this a lot cockier and susceptible to f*cking up, i.e. after TF/TFM going into BTW.
I think they'll get their sh*t together with ARTPOP. They have a much better idea of her market now, what works and what doesn't, how to go about promotion and generally how to play it. Before BTW, they didn't really know what the fans/public liked from her and what they didn't because the first two batches were so relentlessly popular regardless.
My only slight concern is that they could try too hard to be commercial and result in it falling a bit flat.
