I don't think it works like that... I do think she has control, as I'm also sure they would force her to promote if they could, but the problem , IMO, is deeper... As in they would be wise to fear another kind of meltdown if she does anything she isn't completely on board.

I'd rather find out the full story of what went down tbh

I personally don't think there's much more to know. We aren't entitled to know what "mental illness" she may have, as we aren't to any other human being with private health records. And as far as her rebellion during the time, there's no secret she was just doing what she wanted.

I do think she's in control of what she does, but she's f*cking lazy when it comes to promo.
Her record label NEEDS to make an itunes countdown with promo singles and "complete my album" for album #8, plus some massive viral promo campaign if they want decent success for Era 8. If they do this, Britney will only need 3-4 promo appearances in shows to promote the album/singles. I swear, sometimes I feel like us, the stans, should run the record labels and be our fave's managers.

For X Factor, Britney is being forced to promote because it's part of her contract.
For her own career, Britney is in charge of it which means she doesn't do squat. Think about it: if she were just a cash cow, she would be forced to promote like everybody else because labels lose money when the material flops. Clearly she's in charge of her own career.
Hmmm.

I've always thought this!
I remember seeing stans on Exhale claiming Britney loves and wants to promote her music but her team / label are forcing her to not promote due to the c-ship. Britney said herself she hates doing promotion, it's obviously her least favourite part of her career. Touring is her favourite, hence the lack of promotion during Circus and Femme Fatale and the rush onto a world tour so qucikly after the release. She has a lot more control over her career than people give her credit for.
I still believe Jive / her team had Britney booked to perform HIAM at the Grammys 2011. Perez was too certain of it. I know he isn't an official source but he's been so closely linked to team Britney, I mean he was also invited to the first public screening of the FFT later on in the era! Britney most likely pulled out of performing, that's why Adam only confirmed she wasn't appearing a week before, instead of much earlier when everyone was talking about it and he was completely ignoring everything! Kind of like Alan Carr saying Britney was appearing on his show, followed by her team denying she was ever going to appear as Britney pulled out.

I'd hate promotion too. Going on a million interviews, dressing up, lame questions, like bitch let me do my tour.

It is part of the game, however, especially if you are a Pop star. Hell, everything you decide to do, you're gonna have the ups and downs. Unless you don't wanna do it anymore.
