Is it not possible that maybe they like it that way and therefore they are enjoying life as much as they can? Plus, if she did do so well on her advanced placement exams, it is possible she was the type who rarely had to study but instead had to just pay attention in class, which allowed her to do her own stuff after school.
You are probably right though. I just think that she did what she wanted to, so it is not really wasting time and lacking experiences. She will still have enough time to experience a lot of things.
