There a lot of albums that flopped way harder than bionic. You think that bionic flopped that hard because everyone emphasize it's sales too much but there are A LOT of flop albums that only sold 32k at its first week and didn't sell at all after that (e.g. BASIC INSTINCT). Stans don't drag that kind of albums because they didn't even know that it was released and it may always go unnoticed in ATRL.
