I'm not saying that I don't trust you, I'm saying that those numbers are absolutely mind blowing even by today's standards. Single sales are, as you all know, way higher now than they were back then, thanks to the advent of digital music. And even today, there's no artist alive who can even dream of selling that many singles in that short of a time.
The current record for first week single sales is held by Flo Rida, who sold (IIRC) about 638,000 copies of Right Round within a week of release. Can't Buy Me Love sold more than that in the first day, in an era when you actually had to go out and physically buy singles instead of just downloading them off your computer.
