The amounts of the virus is relatively low in saliva, isn't it? Couples with an HIV+ and HIV- members surely kiss all the time and never contract anything through saliva. The enzymes in saliva even break the virus down.

Obviously this isn't a substitute for a real HIV test. Meaning you should still get tested at least every 6 months (if you are having sex with multiple partners or at all) but this is more to put you at ease like the 20 minute test they give you at the clinic followed by the results of the blood test in a couple of weeks.

Although, this could be potentially dangerous for people who are depressed and/or have suicidal thoughts. There's a reason why doctors and counselors want to see you in the office and that's because you might lose your **** if you're positive.

It doesn't test for everything, and yes HIV is bad, but so is herpes, syphilis, etc etc

Is this only for HIV or can it detect other STD's? I mean it awesome you can prevent HIV, but would suck if you got herpes!

HIV is in the blood, so how is a swab going to help anyone.

Swab tests are reliable but the virus may take up to 3 months to show up on any test... Thinking that you can just test someone and then screw them raw and dirty without catching something is just ignorant.

That's what I was thinking..what if the "patient" just had the virus..like 2 weeks ago..there aren't like 6 months in which the virus may or may not show?

This. I don't even trust people when they put their test dates in their profiles/grindr/etc. "Negative as of ______" Okay. Glad you are getting tested but there's still a chance you have it. The only way to TRULY be sure is if you don't have sexual relations () for six months () and then get a blood test.

So, for that reason, if you want to be careful.. just pretend that everyone has it and prepare yourself that way. Use the protection, kids. It's not worth it.
