Hm. I have an iPad and it's the only tablet I've ever had. The screen is good but I also can be happy with a smaller one. I mostly use it for web browsing and Netflix, and seeing how I used to watch Netflix on my tiny ass iPhone, I'm sure a 7 incher ain't that bad.
Gosh, now you guys got me re-reading things in a different way
Based on your posts, it seems as if you are unsure as to whether you want to settle for 7 inches or choose something upwards of 10 inches. I say go for what you think you can take best.
If you are content with 7 inches, then cool. I think you will find greater satisfaction and greater bang for your buck holding out for something bigger.

I had a Samsung 10.1 before I sold it and bought a Nexus 7. We also have a iPad everyone in the house uses.
I'd say for consuming content I like the 7 inch version better. 7 inches is closer to actual book size for reading, and is lighter and easier to hold. I also like 7inches for laying down or lounging around watching video more because of it's smaller and easier to hold size. I also found that games were easier to play on 7 inches because touchscreen controls are easier since you have full reaching access to the entire screen at once.
10 inches is far better for content creation though. I could type up documents, take notes, and drawn and edit stuff far easier on the iPad and the tab 10.1 then I can on my Nexus 7. However since I very RARELY ever wanted to create content on my tablet, I would always rather just do that on my laptop, so I was solely using it for videos, games, reading and web browsing thus I like the 7 inch form factor more.
TL;DR 7 inches is better and more comfortable for pure content consumption. 10 inches is better for you if you also want to do content creation and do productivity/laptop replacement type things. Both have their merits, neither are a waste.

Huh, I failed to realize this. Good point. I'll be in line for that iPad Mini then
