No Latin American country had something like the Jim Crow laws so late in history...and in many Latin American countries (in most in fact) the non-white "ethnic groups" are in fact the majority. Having lived in Latin America and the US I can tell you while race is obviously still an issue as it is anywhere, it's not as big a deal as it is in America.

I'd love to hear the answer to this. You will never find a politician in Latin America saying something like "slavery was beneficial". Slavery existed in Latin America, like in Peru for example, with very very similar conditions to what happened in the US but it's a complete non-deal now. People know about it and consider it something horrible that happened long ago but society has moved on. If someone is discriminated against because of their race it will be a HUGE scandal and the business/whatever would be shut down (it happened recently at a cinema, and by a non-white employee towards a non-white customer, both from native Indian descent).

Not only is he saying blacks should be thankful for slavery, but also that we're at fault for white people being lazy. Like, I just............ like, really???

The point that he was making could have been a decent one, if he was coming from the angle that suggests that going through slavery made black people in America a much stronger group as a whole...but he didn't. And even beyond that, slavery didn't end the oppression against blacks in America. The black person had to encounter segregation, lynchings, Jim Crow laws, and just about the worst racism imaginable for another hundred years. And guess what? They still deal with racism, even today!

So yeah, he did lie. And not only that, but he's stupid, to boot!

It's crazy because the LATimes article about the teen kids getting beaten in Chicago is one of the many reasons my parents won't allow me to go to this certain neighborhood. That incident was in the 80s and I'm sure things are better now but I couldn't even go my friends birthday party because she lived there. And actually I know a few people who went to that neighborhood and they ran into trouble, this was like a few weeks ago. And what's crazier is that this neighborhood is right next to a black neighborhood.

This guy is an idiot. Not him trying to say black people made white people dumber and lazier. 1. White people forced slaves to do their work, now who's lazy? 2. Black people weren't being educated because rules made by white people prohibited it. The lack of education and importance has an effect even today.
