The problem is that they've bombarded us with Summertime (still fresh), then Blue Velvet and even Burning Desire. Only hardcore fans are aware of it, and wouldn't get confused.

Ride won't do anything until they release music video/start doing some promo.

Lana and 1D have completely different fans, it's not going to effect her at all.
